This is a great little battery tester especially for the money. It is the same as the MAC tools BT8300 that sells for $229.99. I have tested hundreds of batteries and have yet to be led wrong with the test results. It is a real time saver being able to accurately test batteries that are very discharged saving time and money otherwise wasted charging up questionable batteries prior to testing them on a traditional carbon pile load tester. I have used a hand held Snap-On conductance tester comparable to this and prefer this OTC 3183. Stop reading and just buy it, you won't be disappointed. ASE Mastertech in NH

I bought this OTC 12 Volt Battery Tester to use both at home and in the shop. It works very well. Yes, the display is a red led like someone else already mentioned but what's wrong with that? The leads are actually constructed better than in the photo - possibly have been updated??? I don't know of anything bad to say about this tester? It works just as well as the code generating Midtronics tester - it just doesn't spit out a warranty code like the Midtronics does but I'm not doing warranty work, so I don't need that feature.

Bought this unit for work to test home standby generator batteries. It says it will test during cold temperatures by just using the cold test button when testing below 30 degrees F. I have had this tester say a battery has failed the cold test on a cold day but when I bring the same battery back to the shop let it warm up and test it on normal it passes. This makes me worry about how reliable this unit is as batteries usually always fail in the cold. If i test it when its warm and it passes?

Since taking delivery of this tester, I have had only one opportunity to use it. But, the battery I was testing did not have the minimum 7-Volt charge requirement, in order to test it using this tester. This is the only reason I gave this tester 4 Stars instead of 5. This Kit includes a case, which hold the tester, leads and operation manual. The case includes a felcro strap to hold everything in place. I have a couple of old cars that are not driven much. Low Batteries are always a problem. This Tester is a handy way to determine if the battery is good or bad. Another plus is this tester can be used to perform basic starting and charging tests.

Very disappointing. The build quality is not bad at all, pretty rugged construction. The unit is fairly large, unnecessarily, does not seem to have a lot of circuitry inside that justifies the large size. The LED is RED ! The product display picture shows an LCD display. This is NOT the case, its RED LEDs, just awful ! thats so old school. Tested it on my car battery Before a 14 mile road trip and it displayed FAILED. After the trip I tested it again and it reported PASS. So which is it ? Is the battery good or bad - this is confusing. I recommend do NOT buy. OTC is generally known for good automotive products but this one sucks ! The power cable is negative and positive, NOT the single black cable as displayed in the picture.
