5Works Great!  Dec 25, 2010
By M. Lunsford
I have a Jaguar XK8 which I typically had to crank for 5 to 10 seconds before it would start. The check-valve on the fuel pump was apparently bad, and the fuel pump is in the fuel tank. The dealer wanted $1800 to do the job. The fuel pump alone was $500, and the entire fuel tank needed to be removed in order to replace it. Instead of spending $1800, I cut the fuel line, inserted this check valve, and now my car starts instantly every time! The only problem I had was with the size of the fuel line. Jaguar uses metric size fuel lines and this check valve didn't quite fit. So, I just purchased some flexible fuel line from the auto parts store and spliced this check valve into the existing line using the flex line. It worked perfectly and saved me over $1700!

5Tips and caution  Dec 04, 2010
By mkgearhead
I have been a professional auto tech for 24 years. I had an almost identical situation as one of the other reviewers. My own vehicle, a Chevy Blazer with long crank time after sitting, due to fuel drain back. This valve fixed the problem for ~$40 instead of a $300 pump (which I really didn't want to get into the whole rusty tank/lines etc... deal on my back in the driveway)

I would add a few cautions and tips.
a) There are many causes of fuel pump failure. This will only repair a faulty pump check valve, (pressure leaking back to the tank after shutdown) ~make sure you have it diagnosed properly.
b) SAFETY!!!! fuel leaks and fires are NOT fun.
c) As stated before, follow the directions, the valve is directional and placement is important.
d) Be careful when installing tubing into the valve, I pushed the line in too far and dislocated the tiny snap-ring inside. The result was a stuck-closed valve. I had to disassemble it and reinstall the snap ring correctly and it worked great. It would have been easier to do it right the first time. :)

5save $300 or more plus labor.  Sep 19, 2009
By Michael Wilson Jr. "life is short, play naked."
I am a professional technician. last year, as most people did, we fell on hard times; money was tight. unfortunately the car has no idea of this, the fuel pump check valve on my wife's Saturn SL-2 went bad. the check ball fell into the tank and now crank crank crank crank crank crank crank and barely start (or not start). the aftermarket Bosch (OEM brand is Bosch also) pump module (without the fuel level sender; dealer only) is $300 MY COST AT THE SHOP !!! i was horrified, but when cold outside this car struggled to start and could not sometimes. so, we tried this CKV7 3/8" check valve from a supplier (not amazon) and spent the $40 plus $10 shipping to the shop. once installed, no leaks, and it holds fuel pressure. it has been over a year and the car still starts like it never had a problem. i cannot say enough about this solution. it's inexpensive, it WORKS (PERIOD), and it saves you time and money. what else could you want? just make sure you read all the instructions, install the valve as close to the tank as possible, and make sure it is on the pressure line TO the engine with the arrow pointing to the front of the car. i have seen 3 installed wrong. one in the return line, and two right next to the engine. none of those three worked. there needs to be enough line in front of the valve so there is room for the pressure to occupy. then the engine will start. love it !!

3Works but doesn't work well  Jul 02, 2011
By Josh
Hard starting 1997 Jeep Wrangler...meaning I'd get in the jeep, turn over the starter forever to no avail. Then let off the key, and it would start on 2nd attempt...then ran a little rough for a few seconds...then it was fine.

Fuel was draining back into the tank during shutdown, creating a lot of air in the line...so the injectors were pumping air for the first part of startup.

Tried installing this check valve near the fuel tank as a solution because of the low price.

Did it fix the problem? Yes...it started 1st time every time...but...

NEW PROBLEM: Fuel pressure forward of the check valve rose (Las Vegas heat plus hot engine compartment) during shutdown enough to blow off the fuel lines and injector o-rings. WAY too much pressure.

SOLUTION: The factory pump assembly has a check valve feature...and also an overpressurization relief valve. Going to buy a factory replacement pump...it seems the panel of engineers who designed the system knew what they were doing after all...guess I need more schooling to outsmart them...pulling out my wallet again to do it right this time:)
